Participatory Mural Making
The Process
Restoring the P.I.E.C.E.S. Project
This grassroots mural project took place at Carolyn Elaine’s alma mater Fenger High School. She brought students together with parents, staff, administrators, alumni and community to assist all in developing a renewed sense of self-identity, belonging, and personal worth in the face of escalating violence, by focusing on their strengths and their personal and family stories in a high quality artistic experience supported by the community.
Reaching Back, Moving Forward
Lest We Forget the Song of 47th Street
This bricolage mural was produced by an artist team led by Carolyn Elaine and John Pitman Weber and community volunteers to provide passers-by different experiences of the history of 47th Street.
