Aikia's Peacock (2017)

Location: 401-403 Washington Boulevard in Oak Park IL.
Project Description:

This 105 square feet mosaic mural is the first of two mural projects completed during the 2017 summer Off The Wall program. It was designed by Master Artist Carolyn Elaine as a tribute to her committed assistant and dear friend Aikia. In 2013 Aikia began working along side Elaine and the Off The Wall apprentices to create stunning mosaic murals that are installed throughout the Oak Park community. Aikia’s presence was truley missed this summer. She was unable to assist due to her health challenges. Aikia made her transition on November 25, 2017.
The peacock is a possessor of some of the most admired human characteristics, and is a symbol of integrity and the beauty we can achieve when we endeavor to show our true colors. In history, myth, legend and lore, the peacock symbolism carries portents of: Nobility, Spirituality, Guidance, Protection and Watchfulness. This beautiful work of art is such a fitting analogy for Aikia.
